With no telling what will happen with the remainder of the NHL season something for leaf fans to look forward to is the 53rd overall pick from the 2019 draft. Nicholas Robertson. You can rest assured this 5’9 center will be seen in a leaf jersey in the near future. Currently playing for the Peterborough Petes of the OHL. Robertson is known around the OHL as a hard nosed forechecker who is relentless in his ability to chase the puck down by any means necessary. His game can be compared to that of Max Domi from the Montreal Canadians. A big time trash talker with skillful upside and the desire to step in for his teammates where needed. With all that being said Robertson’s biggest asset is his shot! Sound familiar? Not saying he is anywhere near as skilled as Matthews but Robertson is very good at fooling goalies with his shot. His biggest weakness however is size. Only 5’9 and 161 IBS at 18 years old don’t let size fool you though as this skillful center has a lot of upside to make leaf fans excited! At the time of the OHL league suspension Robertson had 55G 31A for 86P in only 46 games played and led the OHL with 8 shorthanded goals. Able to slot in on the powerplay and shorthanded units as well as being able to play both center and left wing this dynamic young forward has all the skills to slide in just about anywhere on the Leafs and leaf fans could see that as early as the 2021-2022 season.
