After an embarrassing performance in New York on John Tavares’ return to long island the Maple Leafs took out their frustrations on their QEW rival The Buffalo Sabres. It was the 2nd meeting this week with both games resulting in a 5 goal performance by The Maple Leafs and a win.
The win also marked the 40th win of the season in 65 games played (40-21-4) making them just the 3rd team to reach 40 wins this season an accomplishment that took them 69 games in last years record breaking performance with 105 regular season points.
The night also had several personal accomplishments:
John Tavares became just the 4th player in Maple Leafs history to record 70+ points in his 1st season with the Franchise.
Mitch Marner set a new personal best in goals with his 23rd of the season.
Auston Matthews set a new career high in assists with his 30th of the season.
Patrick Marleau moved into 7th on the all time list for games played skating in his 1640th last night.
Nicolas Petan scored in his Toronto Maple Leaf debut.
Although this year has carried a lot of emotion and expectations The Maple Leafs continue to push and progress further in their rebuild game in and game out.
We’re witnessing something special and we often get caught up in bad when we should be focusing on the good and let me tell you Leafs fans, there is a lot more good than bad.
