Maple Leafs highly debated top prospect Carl Grundström
Selected 57th overall in the 2016 NHL entry draft has had an Immediate impact since joining the Toronto Marlies.
Grundström suited up in 28 games for the Marlies last year including 20 games in the AHL playoffs, where he totaled 14 points (8 goals 6 assists).
The 6′ 200lb winger is a force to be reckoned with the fast, Physical winger has an amazing net presence where he uses his size to his advantage. Most of his offence is created in close to the net a talent leafs could use with the absence of jvr.
His style of play much resembles the that of Zack Hyman but possibly even better. Grundström is a work horse, not as speedy or as agile as Hyman but his size & grit and take no s*** attitude makes him a real treat to watch.
The MLDN Panel debated just where he did belong in terms of top 10 prospects was he number 2 or was teammate Jeremy Bracco.
Ultimately we have decided that Grundström is our number 2 prospect beating out Jeremy Bracco solely based off of team needs. Grundström checks almost every box when it come to what Leafs need:
•hard working ✅
•scoring ability ✅
•Team Player ✅
The only place Grundström really falls short is in his defensive play but a player with this kind of work ethic under Toronto Marlies head coach Sheldon Keefe and Maple Leafs Coach Mike Babcock rest assured the defensive game will come.
